Laurie McGill Student Success and Service to Children in BC Faculty of Medicine & Family Education at BC-MPIC-West Vancouver, BC September 21-23 St. Patrick’s students completed their Ciphr Exam in time for the Allyson Children’s First Nation Day with a performance by a young woman named Mary Stearns from Bandongé City, BC (pictured left). After a brief introduction to the school’s curriculum on page 5 of learning materials and the language background materials, students began showing up with short phrases that highlighted these issues facing children in a manner that was unique. Butler, Ph.D. is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY), School of Management, in York, United States. She has taught and practiced since 1981 in West and Suburb regions of the US. Her main tasks include preparing a class for adults working within the school, interpreting an online bilingual program to meet a diverse genderized curriculum, and implementing a curriculum for a broad community, including ethnic groups.
Butler started programming at SUNY in 1985 and worked her way up to professional assignments before returning to New York City where she received a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice with two years of working in a diverse curriculum. From 1995 to 2000 she worked as a web host using the IT Group’s “Business Prep” feature on the Yahoo! Business Center. In September 2010 she returned to her home in Queens, New York to pursue a master’s degree in Computer Science with an emphasis in Mathematics. She now teaches classes in STEM-related subjects plus teaching in English from a variety of computer and information processing departments. In January 2010 she published her final thesis about gender-centric language and culture and continued her studies in English Studies at SUNY, the only full-fledged language research department dedicated solely to the development of scholarly research.
She has authored her own books and written blog posts, and recently had her first meeting with a young English language teacher in the United States during an assignment from an English teacher being offered two years younger than her. She is a Board Certified member of Queen’s University, a Program Chair in the School of Women and Gender, and a Senior Fellow with Black Writers of Canada (BCWR). W.H.
